Salvo Cuccia (Palermo, 1960) has researched in video art and new forms of documentary.
In 2005 Détour De Seta, documentary on director Vittorio De Seta, was presented by Martin Scorsese at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham.
In 2006 he filmed the documentary Oltre Selinunte and won the prize CinemAvvenire at XXIV Torino Film Festival.
In 2007 he created and directed the project Albasuite, a series of documentaries on the arbëreshë, the Italo- Albanian minority community in southern Italy where Cuccia is from.
In 2011 he directed the documentary 1982. L’Estate di Frank produced by Eleonora Cordaro for Magazzini Einstein of Rai Educational. The documentary is about Frank Zappa’s visit to Sicily and his concert in Palermo.
A new version of the documentary was presented in 2013 for the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival: Summer 82 When Zappa Came to Sicily, produced by Eleonora Cordaro, Abra&Cadabra and the Zappa Family Trust, with Frank Zappa, Gail Zappa, Moon Unit Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Diva Zappa, Mathilda Doucette Zappa, Megan Zappa, Massimo Bassoli, Steve Vai, Thomas Nordegg, Tanino Liberatore and Joe Travers.
In 2014 Salvo shot Hippie Sicily, documentary on the commune of Terrasini and the underground scene of the 70s.
In 2015 Salvo shot Il Soldato Innamorato, a documentary based on the visual and written account of his grandfather “Diario della Guerra 15/18”. Produced by Abra&Cadabra withRAI Cinema.
2015 is also the year of Salvo’s first feature film Lo Scambio (Hidden Identity) with Filippo Luna, Barbara Tabita, Paolo Briguglia, Maziar Firouzi, Vincenzo Pirrotta, Tommaso Caporrimo, Sergio Vespertino, Orio Scaduto.
